Autumn Newsletter - Issue #4
I wish I could begin this newsletter with all the exciting things I've been doing in the world of art this fall but unfortunately things have been a little different than I had expected. As many of you already know, in late July I was diagnosed with a benign brain tumor (meningioma).
As frightening as it all was, I felt pretty confident in that I had the best doctors available and that the location of my tumor made it more likely that there would be few, if any, complications. My symptoms were minimal so I could still work and I had very few limitations due to the tumor. I had surgery at the Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix on September 3rd and my recovery seemed to be going quite smoothly for a few weeks. However, I developed complications and had to return for more surgery in October, so needless to say, I haven't been able to do a lot of painting.
I do expect a full and complete recovery so it is just a matter of time before I am back in my studio painting. This is just one of those little blips in life that might make an interesting book someday.
With all the wonderful thoughts & prayers & support from family and
friends my recovery has been full of love and will be
complete with time. I will never be able to thank them enough.

Open Studio Saturday, November 13th from 11 to 5
I had signed up for the Tucson Pima Art Council Open Studio Tour
before my diagnosis and with the help of family and a few friends
I will be able to be open on
Saturday November 13th from 11:00am to 5:00pm.
As part of the tour, six of us decided to get together by promoting "Small Works for a Big Cause" to benefit St. Luke's Home donating 25% of sales to them. The other five artists are Kurt Anderson, Jane Barton, Judy Flynn, Ginger Hambly, and Roseann Munger. I hope you can get a chance to visit their studios.

Summer Newsletter - Issue #3
Greetings!
I hope everyone is having a great summer. The rains have started here in Tucson - not a lot of rain yet but the relief is substantial. I've been very busy working on art show submissions for the upcoming art season.

As many of you already know, I frequently paint small quick works as studies for larger works or to simply try a new technique. Sometimes I paint them just to stay fresh & to try to loosen up my brush strokes. The paintings I do for art shows & commissions sometimes combine several photographs. It's important for me to make sure those paintings are accurate so they usually take a considerable amount of time. In any case, sometimes the small paintings turn out to be some of my favorites.
This piece was a quick 6" x 8" study of a bobcat photo I took at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum.
These works are now available for viewing and purchase on my website.
